Itinerary

 

Day 1: Arrival in Tangier 

Begin your tour in the bustling coastal city of Tangier. After your arrival, explore the city’s vibrant medina with its narrow alleyways and lively markets. Visit the American Legation Museum, the only U.S. National Historic Landmark outside of the United States, to learn about the deep-rooted diplomatic history between the two nations. Stroll along the scenic Corniche, with views of the Mediterranean, and enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of Tangier’s cafes. Overnight in Tangier. 

Day 2: Tangier to Chefchaouen 

Travel to the picturesque blue city of Chefchaouen, nestled in the Rif Mountains. Upon arrival, stroll through its iconic blue-painted streets, lined with local handicraft shops selling traditional woven textiles and ceramics. Visit the Kasbah Museum, located in a restored fortress, and learn about the city’s history and cultural significance. Enjoy panoramic views from the Spanish Mosque overlooking Chefchaouen’s charming landscape before settling in for a peaceful evening. Overnight in Chefchaouen. 

Day 3: Chefchaouen – Volubilis – Meknes – Fes 

Depart Chefchaouen and head to the ancient Roman city of Volubilis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its remarkably preserved mosaics and grand architectural structures. After exploring the ruins, continue to the imperial city of Meknes. Visit the impressive Bab Mansour gate, the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, and the sprawling Royal Stables, which once housed the sultan’s horses. drive to the intellectual capital city of Fes where you will spend your night and have dinner in a traditional Riad. 

Day 4: Discover Fes 

Spend a full day discovering the treasures of Fes. Begin with a visit to the renowned Al-Qarawiyyin University, considered the oldest university in the world, and admire the intricate architecture of the Bou Inania Madrasa. Visit the Mellah, the historic Jewish quarter, and the beautiful gates of the Royal Palace. Continue through the narrow streets of the medina, discovering hidden gems like the Nejjarine Museum of Wooden Arts and Crafts and the ancient fondouks (inns) that once accommodated traders. Learn about Fes’ artisan traditions, from copperware to tilework, and enjoy a delicious traditional Moroccan meal in a local riad. Overnight in Fes. 

Day 5: Fes to Merzouga via Ifrane and Ziz Valley 

Leave Fes and travel south through the scenic Middle Atlas Mountains. Stop in Ifrane, often called “Little Switzerland” for its alpine-style architecture and cool climate. Continue through the cedar forests, where you may spot Barbary macaques. Descend into the Ziz Valley, famous for its lush date palms, and pass by traditional Berber villages. Arrive in Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert, where you’ll embark on a camel trek through the stunning Erg Chebbi dunes. Enjoy a magical sunset over the sand dunes before settling into a traditional Berber camp for a night under the stars. Overnight in a desert camp. 

Day 6: Merzouga – Todra Gorge 

Wake up early to witness the spectacular sunrise over the Sahara before heading to Todra Gorge. En route, pass through desert landscapes and small Berber towns. Arrive at Todra Gorge, where towering limestone cliffs rise dramatically on either side of a narrow riverbed. Enjoy a hike along the gorge, taking in the breathtaking views of the rugged canyon walls. In the afternoon, relax at a local guesthouse surrounded by natural beauty. Overnight in Todra Gorge. 

Day 7: Todra Gorge – Dades Valley – Ouarzazate 

Depart Todra Gorge and travel through the Dades Valley, known as the “Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs” for its abundance of ancient fortresses. Admire the unique rock formations, verdant oases, and traditional Berber villages that dot the landscape. Continue to Ouarzazate, the gateway to the Sahara and a popular filming location for Hollywood movies. Visit the impressive Kasbah Taourirt, once the residence of a powerful Glaoui family, and explore the local film studios. Overnight in Ouarzazate. 

Day 8: Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech 

Head towards the UNESCO-listed Ait Ben Haddou, a fortified village known for its earthen clay architecture and its role in films like “Gladiator” and “Game of Thrones.” After exploring the narrow streets and old kasbahs, continue over the Tizi n’Tichka Pass, winding through the High Atlas Mountains, to reach Marrakech. Once in Marrakech, enjoy a free evening to explore the vibrant city’s markets, cafes, and gardens. Overnight in Marrakech. 

Day 9: Full Day in Marrakech 

Spend the day exploring the sights of Marrakech, starting with the Koutoubia Mosque, known for its stunning minaret. Visit the Bahia Palace, an opulent 19th-century palace with beautiful courtyards and intricate tilework. Continue to the Saadian Tombs and then immerse yourself in the chaos and color of Jemaa el-Fnaa square, with its street performers, food stalls, and vibrant atmosphere. Wander through the souks, where you can shop for traditional crafts and spices. Overnight in Marrakech. 

Day 10: Marrakech to Essaouira Day Trip 

Take a day trip to the coastal town of Essaouira, known for its laid-back atmosphere, historic ramparts, and windswept beaches. Explore the medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its whitewashed buildings and blue shutters. Visit the old fishing port and the Skala de la Ville, the city’s impressive sea bastion. After enjoying fresh seafood by the harbor, return to Marrakech for the evening. Overnight in Marrakech. 

Day 11: Marrakech – Casablanca – Rabat 

We will travel north to Rabat, Morocco’s capital city. Visit the Hassan Tower, an unfinished minaret from the 12th century, and the Mausoleum of Mohammed V, a stunning example of modern Moroccan architecture. Stroll through the Oudayas Kasbah with its peaceful gardens and ocean views.  But before that, we will stop in Casablanca to discover the Hassan II big Mosque and enjoy the beauty of the Corniche around. Overnight and dinner at a hotel in Rabat. 

Day 12: Rabat – Tangier Airport 

After having your breakfast at the hotel, we will immediately drive to the airport of Tangier where we will drop you off for your departure. We hope that you enjoy our 12-day program in Morocco and we wish to see you again.
